“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8 The verse above is one that has been floating around in my head these past few weeks. I heard it at mission leader training and it has just stuck with me. This verse brings up multiple feelings in me: 1. Uncertainty- Does the Lord really want to give me power? Does he trust me with it? What am I even supposed to do with that? 2. Fear- Fear because sharing with people my personal story and the ways in which God is working in me and through me means I need to be truthful and vulnerable with people. And I think that's scary. 3. Excitement- In this verse, I hear God calling me to something great, something a little bit unknown. It’s like a promise. Call on the Holy Spirit and GREAT things will happen! Call on the Holy Spirit, be led by the spirit and nothing will stop you, because it’s not you, it’s God and nothing can stop Him. This makes me want to be bold, to go everywhere, to all people “to the ends of all the earth”! Well, I may not be going to the ENDS of the earth, but I will be going to Ohio State University and if there is one thing I’ve learned in traveling Half way across the world to do my student teaching in Germany it’s that God is just as much at work in one place of the world as the other. He is about a great thing, and even now as I sit in this comfortable armchair at the library I feel like jumping up and running to I-don’t-even-know-where! I’m just ready to GO! I am so ready and excited to see the ways the Lord works this year. It is my hope is that this blog would be a place to share the wonders that the Lord is working through the ministry of Saint Paul’s Outreach. Right now, I am a week out from Mission Leader Training: 1 and therefore a week into my support raising efforts. I call and call and recall and message people and talk with people and sometimes it’s tiring. While I sometimes feel discouraged and begin to doubt the Lord’s provision, it is good for me to remember that HE is the one doing all the heavy lifting, and it is only when I rely on myself that I get caught up in worry and doubt. HE is the one who wants me to invite others to this mission so HE will give me courage to ask, and HE is the one that is calling my team’s heart to give even while I do not even know who will be on my support team! HE is the one who will work wonders in my life, my supporters’ lives and my students’ lives. All we have to do is remain open to His Spirit, take courage and follow and He will show His power. I anticipate great things! Watch out OSU! Watch out world. Above is a picture of the Ohio State University Mission Leader Team. Together we will head to the front-lines of our ministry as we reach students out on campus and call them to the fullness of life! But this is only the TIP of the ice-burg. Behind each of these mission leaders is a whole team people who are supporting this mission through prayer and sacrifice! So we do not have only these 8 missionaries pictured but countless more!
To each of my mission partners, as you join me in this mission: WELCOME to the team! I will be praying for you each by name, and I can't wait share life with each of you. God Bless, Emily
